Storm Doris update

Published23rd February 2017

The closure of the Orwell Bridge by Highways England is likely to cause disruption during the evening rush hour as traffic continues to be diverted through the town.

No decision has been taken yet on when the bridge will re-open but it is expected to be after 7pm.

Ipswich Borough Council closed parks today for people's safety and staff will check trees on Friday morning for possible damage before they are reopened.

Christchurch Mansion was also closed but it is hoped to open normally at 10am as long as the surrounding area is safe.

The town’s cemeteries were also closed for public access although we expect them to reopen fully on Friday morning. Services went ahead today and will do so on Friday.

Ipswich Market closed early at lunchtime but we expect stallholders to trade as normal on Friday.

A Council spokesman advised the public to take extra care in the high winds, which brought gusts of up to 70mph in some areas.

Despite heavy traffic, Ipswich bin collection rounds were completed but a few brown bins were missed due to the disruption and they will be picked up on Friday.
