Wassail Cold Fair

Published10th January 2017

The Friends of Holywells Park are hosting the annual Wassail Cold Fair on Saturday 14th January.

It’s very much a family affair as visitors can join a treasure hunt, make a wassail stick and mud faces and “wake up” the trees in the Orchard.

The Cold Fair starts in the park’s performance area near the Conservatory at 11am and goes on until 2pm.

Hot dogs and jacket potatoes will keep out the cold, so go along and join in the fun.

A wassail is an historic ceremony in which incantations and singing takes place within an apple orchard in order to promote a good harvest.

There is ample parking at Athena Hall off Duke Street – a short walk from the park.
