Council making plans for digital switchover

Published7th June 2023

Ipswich Borough Council will discuss its digital switchover plans at the Executive meeting on Tuesday 13 June.

The UK’s communication infrastructure will switch from analogue to digital systems by the end of 2025, affecting the Council’s telephony and HEARS alarm services.

Changes will be needed to existing Emergency Services Centre’s Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) software and the HEARS analogue dispersed alarm units.

Executive will look at the options available and determine the procurement process for the digital replacement systems needed.

Councillor John Cook, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Communities and Sport, says:

“2025 will see analogue telephone lines switched off as part of a digital upgrade.  As part of this digital switchover, the Council will need a replacement for the Emergency Support Centre’s Alarm Receiving Centre software and the HEARS alarm units.

The Council is focused on ensuring an effective digital infrastructure is in place to safeguard and protect this much needed service.”
