Ipswich Borough Council has secured Home Office funding for local community groups and organisations to extend their activities on offer for young people this summer.
Applications are open until 5pm on Tuesday 25 July, with up to £1,000 available for each group. These activities must be within Ipswich and focus on preventing young people from engaging in knife crime, gang involvement or serious violence.
Examples of the types of activities the fund could be used for include: classes to learn alternative skills or hobbies, sporting activities, interactive workshops or fun educational sessions to deter young people from anti-social behaviour.
Successful grant recipients will be required to commit to one or two events held at the Cornhill in Ipswich every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during August. The aim is to promote the organisations, the activities on offer and the funding available to young people in Ipswich during the school summer holidays.

“It is great that our Community Support team has managed to secure funding to support free activities for young people this summer.
The summer holiday is a time when youngsters are looking for things to do and can become bored very quickly. The more groups engaged in helpful activities or life skills to prevent anti-social behaviour, the better for Ipswich and our residents.”
