Ipswich Borough Council’s Executive will be asked next week to approve a revised ‘Table of Fares’ for Hackney Carriages in the Borough.
If approved, the revised fares will be advertised in accordance with section 65 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 and be subject to consultation.
Reviewed on an annual basis, a maximum fare increase of 10% has been agreed with hackney carriage trade representatives, so that any applications for a fare increase are in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Councillor John Cook, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Communities and Sport says:
“After discussions with the Hackney Carriage Trade Representatives, it is proposed that fare structure is aligned to the Consumer Price Index in response to inflationary pressures.
As part of the Hackney Carriage fare review 2023, the maximum fares drivers can charge should be no more than 10% on last year’s fees. The Chair of the Ipswich Station Taxi Tenants Association and 70 licensed drivers who are members of the Association have been consulted as part of this review.”
