Housing support event on World Homelessness Day

Published5th October 2023

To mark World Homelessness Day on 10 October, housing support services will be available to help Ipswich residents concerned about their living situation.

Ten local partner agencies will be available at St Stephens Church in Ipswich, 10am to 2pm to talk to anyone in need of help, advice or support.

If you have a family member who is sofa surfing, know of an over-crowded property in your area or a friend who may need a safe place to stay, this event could really help.

The event, organised by Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich Housing Action Group (IHAG), will see Anglia Care Trust, Emmaus, the Salvation Army, Orwell Housing, Suffolk County Council and the Department for Work and Pensions join Ipswich outreach support workers and Housing Options advisors offer support.

Last year, Ipswich Borough Council’s Housing Options team supported 323 people with homelessness concerns, working closely with partner agencies. This event enables in person engagement with local support services for anyone worried about homelessness.

Councillor Alasdair Ross, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing, says:

“Homelessness support is vital for both preventing homelessness in the first place, and being able to act quickly when we need to. Our Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy for Ipswich focuses on dedicated support to help those in need, with prevention at its heart.

The team work effectively with outreach support, so on World Homelessness Day it is great to see everyone come together to highlight the dedicated homelessness support available.”
