Picnics, hedgehogs and bears at garden party

Published7th July 2017

The ActivLives FREE Big Garden Party is taking place on Saturday 22nd July (11am to 3pm) at the People’s Community Garden on Maidenhall Allotments in Halifax Road.

Children will be able to try their hand at archery and bushcraft, have their face painted as a woodland creature and make a bird box to attract feathered friends to their garden or local woodland.

Bring along a teddy - or try to win one - pick up a picnic at the Pavilion café, and sit on the grass to listen to our headliner band, Honey and the Bear, or wander down the site to listen to a woodland tale with Bards Aloud.

To get closer to nature, you can pond-dip with Ipswich Borough Council education rangers, learn about hedgehogs and how to help them thrive and talk to Master Composters on the all-important subject of garden waste and keeping our soil healthy.

You can also find out about volunteering with us. Come and talk to our staff and volunteers and make an “Over the Hedge Pledge” to make a difference in this wonderful big garden in the heart of Ipswich.
