No one likes bills dropping on the doormat but now you can help plant trees instead!
A council tax paperless billing tree campaign by three Suffolk councils will see trees planted across Ipswich, Babergh and Mid Suffolk as part of a drive to encourage residents to opt for online bills.
The simple message is: “make this your last paper bill – reduce waste and see more trees planted.”
The initiative aims to support the county-wide carbon neutral and greenest county ambitions to promote the benefits which planting trees brings to communities improving the local area.
This builds on existing environmental initiatives including the Greenway’s Countryside Project and Tree for Life in Babergh and Mid Suffolk.
All three councils work together in the Shared Revenues Partnership to provide an effective revenues and benefits service.
Cllr Jan Osborne, Chair of the Shared Revenue Partnership Committee, said: “This initiative is a wonderful way for all of our residents to reduce their paper footprint and see increased tree coverage in our patch. The benefits of planting trees and their impact on our environment are well known and this initiative plays a key part in Suffolk authorities’ ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030.
“I’d encourage everyone to make the switch and go paperless on their bills, joining thousands of other who’ve already done so, to turn a paper mountain into a woodland.”
Parks teams across the three authorities will identify public spaces for planting to take place during the Tree Council’s National Tree Week this autumn.
