Celebrate Summer with a music filled Ipswich Weekender!

Published15th June 2023

A vibrant and welcoming mix of free public events including music, crafts and Pride celebration on the Cornhill are being supported by Ipswich Borough Council as part of the Summer ‘Ipswich Weekender’ on 30 June, 1 and 2 July.

Friday evening sees taster ceramic painting sessions at a town centre workshop, a huge Pride celebration for LGBTQ+ community supporters on the Cornhill, young musicians performing in Carr Street plus live music at The Plough.

Saturday offers more live music in the Town Centre at The Spread Eagle and on Lloyds Avenue, hosted by Three Wise Monkeys where there is also a live music soundscape in their cellar bar. There’ll also be an all-female DJ event at The Hive in Norwich Road, Serenade sessions in St Nicholas’ Street and performances by the People’s Orchestra with a musical workshop at St Peters near Ipswich Waterfront. Plus of course, the Indian Summer Mela takes place on Saturday in Christchurch Park!

Sunday 2 July sees the weekend culminate with Ipswich Music Day, a huge summer showcase of musical talent and family entertainment in Christchurch Park.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, Ipswich Borough Council Leader, says:

“The first Ipswich Weekender in March was so well received, with events on the Cornhill proving extremely popular. The Summer Ipswich Weekender line-up offers a variety of music to be enjoyed around the town by family, friends, and visitors - ahead of a huge celebration of local talent at Ipswich Music Day in Christchurch Park on Sunday 2 July.

With the Indian Summer Mela on Saturday 1 July as well, this really is a huge weekend of music and celebration to be enjoyed by all.”

Each event taking part in Ipswich Weekenders this year receives £500, to enhance the Town Centre offering for visitors, retailers and enhance the community experience.  Find out more at: Ipswich Weekenders | Ipswich Borough Council
