Celebrate the Christmas Lights switch on with us!

Published19th October 2023

With Christmas just over two months away, it’s time to announce the annual Christmas Lights Switch on in Ipswich!

Join us on Thursday 23 November from 5 – 7pm on the Cornhill, to see the Christmas lights being switched on by Ipswich Mayor, Councillor Lynne Mortimer alongside Ipswich Regent Theatre cast members from this year’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty.

BBC Radio Suffolk presenters Wayne Bavin and Sarah Lilley will host the evening, as official media partners for the event.

We’re also excited to be running a drive through event for Blue Badge Holders to enjoy the Christmas lights, on the Sunday 3 December, 6pm-9pm.

Councillor Sophie Connelly, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Culture and Customers, says:

“We’re excited to announce the date for our Christmas lights switch on event this year!

With a special performance from the cast of Sleeping Beauty, the festive event promises to be packed with fun for all the family.

So, bring the whole family along, and let's kick off the festive season with a celebration! We can't wait to see you there!”

Charlotte Spackman, Acting Executive Editor at Radio Suffolk adds: “We are delighted at BBC Radio Suffolk to be teaming up with Ipswich Borough Council to kick start Christmas in our county town.

We are looking forward to plenty of festive fun and games on stage with BBC Radio Suffolk breakfast host Wayne Bavin and daytime presenter Sarah Lilley, plus some great entertainment from the Ipswich Regent Panto cast of Sleeping Beauty.”
