Ipswich has a strong heritage and culture, but what themes should the new Augmented Reality (AR) Trails as part of Digital Ipswich plans be?
Ipswich Borough Council is asking residents, businesses, and visitors to submit ideas for Augmented Reality Trail themes, with the best ideas selected and developed into interactive trails!
An AR Trail is a guided tour using a mobile phone to navigate a set route that offers learning and fun as part of a virtual interactive experience. AR trails offer an interactive experience, that combines the real world and computer-generated content using smartphones.
An online poll is now available, to identify the themes of ten AR trails around Ipswich. Maybe a sport or football theme, the arts, ‘Top Ten’ local landmarks, guess the age of the building, nature, environment, or a gaming theme perhaps?
Councillor Neil MacDonald, Ipswich Borough Council Leader and Towns Deal Board member says:
“Augmented Reality has become a fascinating technological development, with AR trails developed across the world to give visitors both immersive and interactive experiences.
We’re excited to be seeing this technology being used in Ipswich to give our residents and visitors a chance to explore a different side of Ipswich.
I’m looking forward to seeing the ideas for trails, with the top ten being selected and transformed into trails to be enjoyed in and around the town centre.”
A public consultation is now open, with responses invited until 11 December. Find out more and suggest your AR Trail ideas at: Digital Ipswich | Ipswich Borough Council
These new trails are possible thanks to Towns Deal Funding, part of the UK Government’s Levelling Up initiative. Find out more at: About the Towns Fund | Ipswich Borough Council
