Funding puts community in focus

A unique community photography festival will be able to expand on its launch event last year, thanks to funding by Ipswich Borough Council.

Ginnel Foto Fest made its debut last May as an alternative arts festival in the heart of the town’s Westgate Ward. An urban space in Clarkson Street was opened to the public to exhibit high quality photos for the benefit of the community.

Ginnel Foto Community has since been established to not only organise the festival but also create other events, including photo walks and competitions.

Ipswich Borough Council’s Central Area Committee has approved funding of £3,150 to enable the group to purchase equipment and promotional materials to expand on the success of the first event.

Ginnel Foto Community will host Ginnel Foto Fest 2017 on 27th and 28th May.

A spokesman for the Central Area Committee said: “Foto Fest made a successful debut last year and we wanted to help the organisers expand the offer this year to include a range of activities in Westgate Ward.”
