Shopmobility seeks volunteers

Published27th May 2015

Ipswich Shopmobility is appealing for volunteers to help run its service. Shopmobility, which is about to celebrate it’s 26th anniversary, provides wheelchairs and mobility scooters for residents and visitors to get around the town centre.

Councillor David Ellesmere, Council Leader said “ Volunteers are one of our greatest assets. We have a dedicated team that helps to keep the Shopmobility scheme running and it’s a great way of getting out and meeting people too. National Volunteers' Week is a great time to get the word out about this service and the benefits to volunteers and users."

Mary Sanders, a Shopmobility volunteer for over 15 years, said: “I use the service myself, so it’s great to be able to help others and it gives me a purpose to go out."

Ipswich Shopmobility is located in the Lower Ground level of the Buttermarket Shopping Centre and is open Monday to Saturday 09.15 – 16.15 and can be contacted on 01473 222225 or shopmobility@ipswich.gov.uk
