What is The Great Big Green Week?

Ipswich Borough Council is bringing The Great Big Green Week to Ipswich next week to help inspire residents to make positive changes to tackle climate change and protect green spaces.

Taking place between 18-26 September, the climate action campaign known as The Great Big Green Week will see thousands of local events and activities take place across the UK – all aimed at getting people to act and show up for our world.

The Great Big Green Week is being organised by the Climate Coalition ahead of COP26, the United Nations Climate talks, later this year in Glasgow.

How can I get involved?

Attend an event

Zero Emissions Day

For Zero Emission Day, on Tuesday 21 September, we’re hosting a special event at Christchurch Park that will see some of our electrical vehicles (EV) on display alongside other EV models from local car retailers.

Between 10am – 3pm visitors will be able to find out more about switching to electric, get tips on how to reduce, re-use and recycle as well as plant bulbs and litter pick.

Read more about this event.

Community litter picks

DiGBY, the blue octopus, is looking for Ipswich residents, community groups and organisations to organise their own community litter picks between 18 – 26 September 2021 as part of Great Big Green Week.

Simply get a group of people together and organise your own community litter pick. Get involved and make a commitment to keep Ipswich clean!

We can supply you with litter picking kits that include litter sticks, refuse sacks, hi-vis vests and health and safety guidance – if required, we’ll even collect the sacks when you have finished (Monday – Friday between 8am – 3pm).

Community planting

Join our Wildlife Team and help maintain Ipswich’s parks and open spaces.

Throughout Great Big Green Week we will be hosting community planting sessions in parks across Ipswich – come along to plant bulbs, trees and shrubs, as well as sow wildflower seeds.

No need to book just turn up!
