We currently have a range of apprenticeship vacancies available across a wide range of services.

An apprenticeship with us is a great stepping-stone to your career, giving you valuable work experience, a recognised qualification, access to all our employee benefits and your own income. 

On top of this, as an apprentice you will take part in the Council’s Apprentice Development Programme, aimed at helping you develop a range of transferable skills including time management, problem solving and decision making. Many of our apprentices go on to get jobs with the Council after their apprenticeship.

Ipswich Borough Council’s Waste and Cleansing team ensures the tidiness and cleanliness of the town centre and surrounding areas. They are responsible for waste collections, street cleaning, graffiti removal and recycling education.

As a Waste and Cleansing Operative Apprentice you will help make Ipswich a great place to live, work and study by carrying out various cleansing duties in the public realm, including footpaths, shopping areas and public open spaces. You will learn how to carry out specialist cleansing tasks and how to operate equipment, all while studying for your apprenticeship qualification

An exciting opportunity to work as a dedicated member of a busy team has arisen. You will supervise and assist the Supervisors and Managers in the safe operations of services at our Sports Centres and Swimming Centres. All whilst working towards your Apprenticeship qualification.

You main duties as a team member:

  • To maintain observation of the Pool and its users in order to anticipate and prevent problems and accidents and undertake or assist in water/ land-based rescues where necessary.
  • Complete inductions and deliver fitness programmes to allow customers to exercise safely and offer advice to customers around fitness and training.
  • Assist, facilitate and teach pupils to swim according to their assessed needs and the swimming development programmes group swimming lessons so that the pupil can achieve agreed ASA certification levels.

The Shared Revenues Partnership is a partnership between Ipswich Borough Council, Babergh District and Mid Suffolk Council for the delivery of revenue and benefits (e.g. Council Tax).

As a Business Support Apprentice you will be responsible for delivering IT and administrative support to the Revenues and Benefits services for the three Local Authorities and the Business Support Team.

A unique, exciting, opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our Major Capital Schemes team, who are responsible for the effective maintenance and improvement of the Council's operational property, including venues such as the Regent Theatre and Crown Pools.

As part of your role you will help provide a comprehensive, high quality, client focussed service, working alongside Engineers to lead projects teams, investigate property engineering defects and advise on appropriate action. You will also help prepare reports, surveys and schedules, as well as give professional and technical engineering advice.
